Thierry Roquet

Arriving in guatemala in 1987, Thierry was immediately captivated by the beauty of the Maya lands. he settled in Quetzaltenango, in the heart of the Guatemalan highlands, and founded the travel agency Mayaexplor to share his love for the region. For over 30 years, he has dedicated his experience and deep knowledge of the area to helping travelers explore it. An explorer at heart and passionate about the Maya world, Thierry loves vast, untouched natural landscapes — from the tropical rainforest of Tikal to the Maya highlands, the volcanic peaks, and the Caribbean beaches. He was among the first guides to promote responsible and community-based tourism in Guatemala and one of the pioneers who mapped trekking routes across the altiplano. through his involvement in the creation and growth of the INEPASassociation, Thierry has also contributed to community development efforts in the Guatemalan highlands. for many years now, he has combined managing Mayaexplor with his passion for designing travel itineraries — crafting the perfect trip to match each traveler’s expectations is a challenge that continues to inspire him.

Traveling is about discovering, learning, respecting, sharing, and connecting.
It’s about loving our Madre Tierra — our Mother Earth.

That’s the vision of travel I want to share with you.

Her vision of travel :

“Traveling has become a popular pastime, with the growth of organized tours and local tourism networks. but for those truly passionate about discovery, it’s getting harder and harder to avoid the beaten path.
Sometimes traditions turn into mere folklore, and encounters with local people are often reduced to commercial exchanges.
For me, traveling isn’t about trading smiles through the windows of a tour bus during a city tour, nor speeding through an indigenous village in a powerful 4x4 trying to snatch a photo of a startled child.”
