The Bay Islands lie along the world’s second-largest barrier reef, which stretches northward to Belize. The reef is home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life and coral species. Honduras is also home to numerous nature reserves in the mountains, rainforests, and along the coast. These protected areas are ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, rafting, and canoeing.
But Honduras is much more than beautiful landscapes. Its cultural heritage is equally remarkable, as demonstrated by the exceptional Maya sculptures and architecture found at the archaeological site of Copán—often referred to as the Athens of the Maya world.
