Language immersion

Study Spanish and Discover Guatemala!

Mayaexplor offers an original travel concept that combines intensive Spanish courses with an unforgettable discovery of Guatemala.

It’s the perfect way to blend language learning and travel — a personalized experience in an environment ideally suited for both!

Why study Spanish in Guatemala?

Guatemala has become an internationally recognized destination for learning Spanish. The language is spoken here in a clear and steady manner, with simple pronunciation — a practical, accessible Spanish that can be used in any professional or cultural setting.

The City of Quetzaltenango

The Spanish schools in Quetzaltenango rank among the best for their experience and teaching quality. Located in the Guatemalan Highlands, the city offers an ideal environment for true linguistic immersion: English is rarely spoken, and tourism remains pleasantly discreet. Off the beaten path, Quetzaltenango and its surroundings are rich in both natural and cultural treasures.

The school

For many years, we have partnered with INEPAS (Instituto de Estudios de Español y Participación en Ayuda Social), an institution renowned for the excellence of its teaching.

The school’s administration speaks English and French, and its philosophy perfectly aligns with Mayaexplor’s commitment to responsible tourism in Guatemala.

INEPAS includes not only a Spanish language department but also a highly active and respected social aid department, officially supported by UNESCO and the Guatemalan government. Through its effective and well-structured social, legal, and humanitarian programs, INEPAS benefits rural communities across the Quetzaltenango region. Founded in 1994, it is the only school in Guatemala with this level of international recognition.

The Learning Program

Our standard program includes five hours of private lessons per day (one student per teacher), usually in the morning — flexible according to your pace, goals, and preferences.

On your first day, a placement interview will help define the most suitable content and structure for your lessons.

Afternoons are dedicated to cultural or sightseeing activities — such as visits around Quetzaltenango, documentary screenings, or local conferences. These activities are included in the school’s services but are, of course, optional.

Accommodation Options

Most students choose homestay lodging to maximize immersion and experience authentic daily life in Guatemala. This option — included in the school’s services — provides full room and board (three meals a day) prepared by your host family. Comfort levels reflect the standards of Guatemala’s urban middle class.

Other accommodation types can also be arranged, such as furnished and fully equipped apartments, depending on availability. (additional cost applies.)

The Travel Experience

In addition to INEPAS’s local excursions — such as the San Francisco El Alto market — Mayaexplor offers the opportunity to continue your adventure after your language stay, exploring Guatemala’s most iconic destinations.
