The country offers remarkable cultural and natural treasures. The colonial cities of León and Granada are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A long volcanic chain runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean, including several very active volcanoes; the country is dotted with countless lakes and lagoons; and nearly a quarter of its territory is still covered by tropical forest.
